If I need to make a bed to get my first win, the bar isnât low. Itâs underground.
If the book said read 10 pages before touching social media, drink a glass of water before leaving the bedroom, or learn something that makes you more valuable, Iâd buy copies for everyone I know.
But make your bed?
I havenât made a bed in 40 years. Liz can confirm.
The author won, though. He sold millions of books convincing people that straightening blankets was life-changing. Hundreds of speeches deliver. Cash cow. You bought it.
Did making your bed make you millions?
People love gimmicks because gimmicks are easier than doing the hard stuff.
Making your bed wonât build a business. It wonât improve your finances. It wonât make you healthier. It wonât make you indispensable.
The real victories happen when you make the calls, read the books, learn the skills, hit the gym, and do the work nobody else wants to do.
I launch out of bed. I donât linger. I donât negotiate with myself.

I couldnât even legally drink when I had my first child. By 25, I had four.
I lost my father at 18 and learned something early: I didnât want to be old when I had my kids. I wanted to build a life with them, not just provide for them.
At 18, selling on commission at Radio Shack, I made more than my father did after 25 years working for the town. Thatâs when I realized paychecks werenât for me.
By 26 I had been bankrupt, build and sold 3 companies.
Some people want the security of a paycheck. Nothing wrong with that. College is designed to create employees, and the world needs employees.
But I wanted control.
I wanted to decide what I was worth.
I wanted to decide when I worked.
I wanted to decide where I went.
I wanted the upside and I accepted the risk.
Last year I spent 10 weeks traveling the world with my kids. The other 42 weeks? I was usually out of balance.
Thatâs the part nobody talks about.
Entrepreneurship isnât balance. Itâs seasons. There are seasons where you sacrifice, build, grind, and push harder than everyone around you. Then there are seasons where you cash in those chips and create memories most people only dream about.
Nobody tells me where to be.
Nobody tells me what call to answer.
Nobody decides my raise.
Nobody hands me a bonus.
I am the bonus.
The freedom wasnât found in balance.
It was found in ownership.
You will never, ever, hear me say Iâm retiringâŚ.humans are made to work. Retirement to me is like pickleball. It says Iâve given up, keep playing tennis, donât give up!
